Tech Square Tries: The Barrelhouse
This week, we stayed very local to Tech Square and sat down for a meal at The Barrelhouse. This tavern-like bar and grill is nestled into the facade of Scheller College of Business, tucked at the end of the 5th Street stretch. It's just a couple minutes walk from anywhere in Tech Square.
For this review Tech Square ATL invited Blake Patton from the community to give his opinions below. Blake is a partner at both Tech Square Ventures and Engage Ventures, a Georgia Tech alumni, and a prominent member of the Tech Square community.
Barrelhouse has a dimly-lit, bar-pub feel, but is also a great place for families. They have a good mix of standard sandwiches and salads, but there are also a few hidden gems on their menu. Some of these include their amazing wings, soft pretzel bites, and pimiento cheese jar. They also have some killer burgers like their Flamethrower, or Rebel Yell, and you can add sweet potato tots for just $1.
Blake always picks between the Flat Iron Steak and the Buffalo Chicken Salad. Today he went with the steak, no potatoes. Mika ordered the Southwest Salad, and although she forgot to order chicken, it was still a refreshing meal.
The Barrelhouse is a great place to go for both lunch meetings or a meal out with friends. Although it's a little dark inside, and can sometimes be loud, the pub-feel creates for a cozy atmosphere. This is probably one of the cheapest places for a great burger around Midtown and is a great spot for an affordable hearty meal.
