Our Community’s Creative Outlets
Every week at The Clubhouse, we pose a question on our big conversation board about what’s been on the radar for our members lately. This is designed to not only spark conversations and encourage collaboration, but to also allow us to better know our community members in a fun and unique way. Recently, we asked about their creative outlets.
The answers that went up on the board ranged from visual arts and media, gaming, music, and sports. Starting with visual media as a creative outlet: photography, digital art, and creating YouTube videos were mentioned. With visual art taking many forms of expression for our community, we recently celebrated the intersection of the two with the unveiling of our community mural.
As for those who are musically inclined: singing was mentioned. And with last year’s Peer Check-In: Music Edition, we learned that members have a common interest in jazz and classical music. Gaming and sports are also a creative outlet for some, with esports game FIFA and judo being mentioned. As for creative outlets offline: Cooking and painting seem to be popular pastimes, in addition to floral arrangements and DIY craft projects.
Whether it was creating visual art, making music, gaming, sports, or cooking, one thing is certain: While most might think of creativity as an expression of the human imagination exclusively in visual forms (like drawing or painting), being “creative” can mean something different to one member versus another here at Tech Square ATL (TSQATL) Social Club. And that’s a wonderful thing.
Speaking of creative outlets, we’d love for you to share yours! If you have a recent project you’d like to showcase, let us know about it so we can feature you in The Weekly, on our website, and on our social media channels. Submissions can include, but are not limited to, digital art, painting, photography, motion media, graphic design, illustrations, journaling, and more. Simply tell us about your project using this form or email hello@techsquareatl.com. And be sure to follow us on Instagram @TSQATLSocialClub to check out other artist submissions as well.
Did You Know?
The creative flow, as most notably defined by researcher and psychologist Mihaly Csikszentmihaly, is “a state in which people are so involved in an activity that nothing else seems to matter; the experience is so enjoyable that people will continue to do it even at great cost, for the sheer sake of doing it.”
What do you consider to be your creative outlet? Let us know in the comments below.
